April Adams had little time for rest, like most people in this wild city. Just like many of them, she was here on a short holiday, which meant she had to make the most of every single second before she was forced to board that plane again that would take her back to the real world. Fortunately, she still had a couple more nights left in Vegas, so the fun wasnât over yet.
Along with several of her girlfriends, April had tickets to a pool party tomorrow where a world-famous DJ would be performing before they were to head to one of the biggest nightclubs on The Strip to dance the night away. But that was tomorrow. Tonight, it was the calm before the storm. After so many days surviving on alcohol and very little sleep, and ahead of another hectic day tomorrow, this evening had been designated as a âquiet one.â That meant the alcohol consumption would be limited, and everybody intended to be in bed before midnight. Of course, that didnât mean it was guaranteed to happen, but April and her pals were aware that they were in their thirties now, which meant hangovers were worse and covering up the effects of so many late nights in their complexions was harder.
Yes, tonight was going to be a âquiet one.â
If such a thing was possible to achieve in a city like Las Vegas.
To prove how determined the girls were to keep this eveningâs entertainment to a respectable level, they had booked themselves tickets to a show on Fremont Street, which was known as Downtown Vegas, or more affectionately, The Old Strip. This was an area located around four miles from the more famous strip of hotels and casinos, which the city was more renowned for these days, but taking a trip down to this older end was like taking a walk back in time. April and her friends had enjoyed their time in this part of Vegas, even if it was obvious that this was a place that belonged more to the past than the future. But there was still plenty of things to see and do, and that was how the six girls had ended up buying six tickets to a show in an old hotel that was scheduled to start any second now.
âI thought there would be more people here than this,â said Heather, one of Aprilâs pals from her school days before she took a sip of her diet cola, which proved she was taking this night off thing very seriously.
âNo wonder tickets were so cheap,â April replied, and everybody laughed, or at least they did until the old man a few rows in front of them turned around and scowled.
The girls did their best to stop laughing then, but in the quiet and mostly empty auditorium, they just ended up getting the giggles, and it only made things worse.
Fortunately, the lights in the small and very old-fashioned room dimmed, which at least meant they could no longer be seen, although they could still likely be heard.
